Welcome back! End of the semester this is final reflection blog for the ENG100. I have also made Midterm Reflection vlog in middle of the semester. For making this blog I have got idea from the text Genres in Academic Writing: Reflection. First of all, I want to thanks god who gave me the opportunity to attend each class. Also thanks to our honorable instructor Sabatino who has made this course/class memorable for me. Because this is my first course in American education, and will remember my whole life. By the way, now time to share some in-class experience.
This class was multimodal learning and composing such as narrative writing, research writing and blogs using genres and sub-genres through digital portfolio(Weebly). Never countable which I learned from this class, but yet I listed some from class which I learnt such as: writing as a process, meaning of discourse community, composing an emotional/ a narrative scene(memoir), found poem from memoir, retrieval writing, research paper writing using MLA, and how to do vlog/blog post etc. I felt me knowledgeable during class because I had believe I can learn something from the class. I appreciate Sabatino's time sense management how he taught us different modules followed by pre-allocated time frame. I noticed that he looked at the clock before starting each modules. The class made me writer as well as blogger. It was great learning session for me also was difficult to communicate with other because I was non native English speaker. But the class was resourceful and environmental. The knowledge and experience which I have got from the class I can use my future. By this class I have made friendship with my lovely classmates It has been possible only for Sabatino. Keep composing, Keep making meaning. ---Sabatino M. Welcome back! I am composing my blog #14. I am exited for that I have starting my research project. Before start my research I had no confident. I had fear how I start my research project. When I am join with FRANCIS BRACEWELL and FLORENCE EBUN as a group I felt confident. because I knew team work much more better and efficient than individual. Individually we chose different research question while we decide to make group we argue each other for research question finally we made decision to work the question How can American parents redefine masculinity for their sons? and we chose out research topic Masculinity Impact on American Boys for a Positive Society. My last blog post(#13) was about our research introduction and thesis statement.
I believe group work is the best technique of learning. I am learning lots of thing with group. I hope I will excellent done my research with group. I am grateful to Sabatino without him nothing possible to do. We interact friendly with each other and spent more hours together to completed our first draft. In first draft we talked, how Parental Attention and Care play important role for their boys lives. The need for parental attention and care is one of the two factorsfor redefining masculinity. Giving listening ears or building friendly environment would definitely encourage the boys to open up whenever they are going through any challenges. Parents need to speak to the boys about masculinity rather than give a negative impression. We shared individually our prior knowledge, skills and experience to made our research. Welcome back! This blog will give an insight of our group research writing project for ENG100 class. In the blog I am writing how masculinity impact on American boys. Me and with two authors FRANCIS BRACEWELL and FLORENCE EBUN made our research writing group. With the aid of our professor, we'll do our best. I am going to post what we've written so far (Introduction Page) and more to be published soon.
The Mask You Live In is a documentary produced and directed by Jennifer Siebel Newsom that explores the negativities of masculinity with in the American culture. Newsom’s inspiration for the documentary originated from her getting pregnant with her son. She was quoted during an interview when she said, “It was really important to me that I could nurture a son who could be true to his authentic self, who wouldn’t always feel like he had to prove his masculinity. There’s so much loneliness, pain, and suffering when one is pretending to be someone that they’re not.” We imagine the mixed view this documentary had. Some saw it as gender bias against men and some saw it as the wrong view of masculinity by female. This research paper will traverse masculinity and redefine masculinity as it relates to how American parents raise their sons. Newsom argues that we’ve constructed an idea of masculinity in the United States that doesn’t give young boys a way to feel secure in their masculinity, so we make them go prove it at all time. According to Dr. Caroline, masculinity is not organic, it’s reactive. It’s not something that just develops. It’s a rejection of everything that feminine. We believe that documentary definitions toward boys and their parents are harmful to society and has the propensity to initial violent among boys, we differ with the film on those issues. Parental attention and care, moral orientation as well as redefining masculinity awareness will positively impact the lives of boys in America. Let me start by first given an historical over view of masculinity to give the basic to my argument. ENG 100 Welcome back! In this blog I'm visually representing two documentary movie theme Miss Representation and The Mask You Live In. These I have watched for getting research idea. In my last blog I have discussed inside the theme of these movie. After that our Thursday (04-04-19) Dr. Sabatino ask our to make poster and annotation for these movie. Below sliding images showing our works. We made photo gallery inside our classroom. The class was amazing we took picture our made gallery's, also discussed about how poster representing these movie inside. It was qualitative learning session. Below I shared my made poster. Welcome back! This is blog post #10 and #11. To composing this blog I have to watch these films Miss Representation and The Mask You Live In. Also I got idea what is theme of the films from these Miss Representation Discussion Guide, Miss Representation Script and The Mask You Live In Discussion Guide. After that I have to interpret by considering these questions: How does the argument in the film make you feel (impact on your being)? How does the argument in the film make you think (impact on your knowing)? How does the argument in the film make you want to make change (impact on your doing)?
Miss Representation First I like to share the theme of the film. The film themes was, the battle for women’s rights has been waging for centuries. Why is 21st century America not closer to equality? The media, a lack of role models, and women themselves are some of the factors keeping progress at bay. The media is the message and the messenger and, increasingly, a powerful one. --Mitchell “You can’t be what you can’t see.” Initially, I felt uncomfortable for way of representing american women by media. The media shows them down, making big distance between man and women. A women said, media delivering content that is shaping our society, shaping our politics, shaping our national discourse and most of all, they're shaping our children's brains and lives and emotions. Girls get the message from very early on that what's most important is how they look, that their value, their worth, depends on that. And boys get the message that this is what's important about girls. We get it from advertising, from films, from television shows, video games, everywhere we look. So, no matter what else a woman does, now matter what else her achievements, their value still depends on how they look. There is no appreciation for women intellectuals. It's all about the body, not about the brain. In the film most of the time has shared some successful women and their point of view. My knowing, media doing miss representation about their being, their ability, position, achievements and intellectuals etc. By the media's miss representation their going down also difficulties of equality. I have an argument for their indication, they're indicated women importance depends on their body or look also indicated sexual behaviors but I disagree with their statements because man has interest to women by naturally since the creation of the world. They think their existence behind the man. I think they're existence with man. The Mask You Live In First I like to share the theme of the film. The film themes was, what makes an innocent young boy turn into a violent, angry, emotionally troubled man? A barrage of stereotypes and aggressive masculine typecasting is damaging not only men, but society at large. "Be a Man is one of the most destructive phrases in this culture." In my being, during I'm watching the film made me think about our world. Also I had go back to childhood. My parents treat me 'masculine' in childhood. You are boy, you hove to go this way. You can play football, you can ride cycle, lav, lav lav. You are girl, you can't. In my knowing, By this films I have learned something different way. How parent's guide to their child perspective of their gender; e.g. do you want to be a flying monkey mama's boy snitch? or do you want to be a man? Now being a mama's girl or daddy's little girl, that's wonderful. Another one: A boy crying but mamma says football players don't cry. In my doing, when I will go parenthood, I will teach my child or others by considering these problems. I will give priority, what they want.

He give us option to search by google. After few minute he looking ans individually from us. We give our opinion and he wrote into the white board see below image. After being, doing and knowing session we are engaged another session called Six-Word Memoir. During this session Dr. Mangini pasted $100 into the board and asked us to write six word on the board about the piece of paper ($100). we are wrote about on the board. see below Image. Here I'm sharing one of my friend writing "Not a piece of paper; it's a piece of happiness." During the session I was thinking, after end of the session Dr. Mangini give us $100 for snacks but he did not. Welcome back! After spring break, I'm engaging final reflection writing as a writer. By this blog I will share identity of our discourse community. Before start composing I have to read following three reading: Proverbs for Revising a Novel (Lee Martin), Our Discourse Community Values, What is Literacy? (James Paul Gee) and We Are Many (Pablo Neruda) also watching Karl Iglesias's (script-doctor, author, award-winning instructor and story consultant, specializing in the reader’s emotional response to the written page) interview Writing For Emotional Impact (Karl Iglesias).
After that I have to answer How do these three texts speak to the identity of our discourse community? To answering this question I shall use more than one genres from these such as: Traditional analysis essay, found poem (s), writer's round-table, quote collage, vlog reflection, argumentative essay, etc. Let's start talking...I belonging one special community. This community context is ENG100. "Discourse community always depends on context." Literacy a special accepted association among ways of using language of thinking (identity kit), and of acting that can be used to identify oneself as a member of a socially meaningful group or social network. There are a number of important points that one can make about discourses.
The crucial question is: how does one by the discourses that s/he controls? Before answering the question, it is necessary to make an important distinction between ‘acquisition’ and ‘learning’. Acquisition is a processes of acquiring something subconsciously by exposure to models and a process of trial and error, without a process of formal teaching. This is how most people come to control first language. Learning is a process that involves conscious knowledge gain through teaching, though not necessary from someone officially designated a teacher. Its inherently involves attaining, along with the matter being taught, some degree of meta-knowledge about the matter. "We are better at what we acquire, we consciously know more about what we have learned." Example of primary use of language and secondary use of language: Telling your mother you love her is a primary use of language; telling your teacher you don't have homework is a secondary use of language. Dominant discourses lead social goods in a society. Rhetorical Situation: The writing situation that the writer responds to. Three elements: Audience, Exigence and Constraints. If your mind is empty, it is always ready for anything; it is open to everything. In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities, in the expert’s mind there are few. —Shunryu Suzuki-Roshi Before enlightenment, I chopped wood and carried water. After enlightenment, I chopped wood and carried water. —Zen Proverb While I am writing, I am far away; and when I come back, I have already left. —Pablo Neruda Welcome back! In this blog I have to asses each of my web pages, blog posts, and draft(s) of my narrative project. To assessing I have to use one of three criteria namely suffering, functioning and flourishing.
